Kevin Youkilis hit a game winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 1-0.  Talk about a nice pitching duel between Jon Lester and Roy Halladay.

Lester tossed eight innings and only gave up one in the no decision.  Jonathan Papelbon threw the ninth inning to pick up the win.  Papelbon gave up a hit but kept that runner from crossing the plate.

Besides Youkilis’s single in the ninth inning the Red Sox didn’t have too much offense.  Only five hits in the game for the Red Sox.  I look for them to have a better outing tomorrow against the Blue Jays.

Jacoby Ellsbury led the Boston Red Sox past the Los Angeles Angles 8-7 on Tuesday night as he hit two home runs.  Ellsbury started the game off with a solo home run and then added another solo shot in the sixth inning.

Besides Ellsbury, Kevin Youkilis also had two RBI in the game.  Dustin Pedroia went 4-5 and had one RBI.  Pedroia doubled in Ellsbury for the game winning hit and run in the eigth inning.

Josh Beckett was scratched from his scheduled start so David Pauley made the emergency start for the Red Sox.  Pauley pitched 4.1 innings and gave up seven hits and five earned runs.    Julian Tavarez, Hideki Okajima, Mike Timlin, and Jonathan Papelbon all seen action out of the bullpen.  Okajima blew the save, Timlin picked up the win, and Papelbon recorded save which was his eigth of the season.

The Boston Red Sox used a ninth inning rally to score two runs and break a 3-3 tie and defeat the Cleveland Indians by the score of 5-3.  Jason Varitek’s big solo home run in the ninth inning proved to be too much for the Indians to handle.

Veritek wasn’t the only player to have a big night for the Red Sox as Jed Lowrie went one for three and three RBI.  It was Lowrie’s first major league hit and a big one that really helped out the team.  Lowrie said he could hardly stand at first base after the hit he was so excited.  Kevin Youkilis had an RBI insurance run after the Varitek home run as well.

Tim Wakefield pitched six innings and gave up seven hits and two earned runs to get the no decision.  David Aardsma picked up the win and Hideki Okajima grabbed the save for the Red Sox.

The Boston Red Sox had 13 hits on the night, and they scored 12 runs, now that is what I call production at the plate!  Up and down the lineup, Red Sox batters piled on the RBI’s and the Red Sox went on for the 12-6 victory.

Sean Casey went 2-5 with a game high three RBI.  Manny Ramirez, Kevin Youkilis, J.D. Drew, and Coco Crisp all had two RBI each.  Kevin Cash didn’t want to be left out and had one RBI.

Tim Wakefield pitched five innings to pick up the win.  He only allowed one earned run on the night.  One other run did score but that was helped out by a Red Sox error.

One player that did have some problems pitching was Julian Tavarez who pitched .2 innings and gave up three earned runs.

The Red Sox record is now 5-5 after the victory over the Tigers.

Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Boston Red Sox had no problems with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday as they cruised to a 5-0 victory.  Matsuzaka pitched 6.2 innings and only allowed four hits.  It would have been nice to see him cut down on the walks as he did have four of them on the game.

Kevin Youkilis led the Red Sox at the plate 3-3 with two RBI.  Coco Crisp and J.D. Drew also contributed with one RBI each.

I expect the Red Sox to come out again tomrrow and beat the Tigers who are just out of it right now.

Kevin Youkilis and the Boston Red Sox have agreed on a one year contract that will pay Youkilis $3 million dollars for the 2008 season.  Youkilis will be under the Red Sox control through the 2010 season, he can just expect pay raises the next few seasons through salary arbitration.

Now the Red Sox just need to figure out what is going on with Curt Shilling and / or trade for Joe Blanton and lets get to Spring Training!
