Jon Lester tossed a no hitter against the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.  The Red Sox defeated the Royals by a score of 7-0.  Lester allowed two walks and struck out nine batters in the game.  The complete game was Lester’s first of his career as well.  Boston’s last no-hitter was pitched by Clay Buchholz, who shut down the Baltimore Orioles in just his second major league start last Sept. 1

Jason Varitek had a two run home while Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis both had an rbi in the game.  The Red Sox only managed five hits in the game but Varitek came up big and score two runs with one swing of the bat.

Congrats to Lester on throwing the no hitter.  Red Sox Nation is going crazy tonight!  Red Sox Blog

The Boston Red Sox have hit a little bit of a slump as they have now lost four games in a row.  Today’s game against the Baltimore Orioles seen the Orioles score six runs combined in the sixth in seventh inning as the Red Sox lost 6-3.  They just couldn’t hold onto the lead…

Starting pitcher Jon Lester pitched six innings while giving up five hits and two runs.  He struckout four batters while only walking two.  Lester ended up getting the no decision in the game as the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead after he left the game.

Javier Lopez pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up one run.  After Lopez left the game, Craig Hansen gave up two more runs without recording an out and also took the loss in the game.  Hideki Okajima followed Hansen and and gave up one run as well.  The bullpen just sucked it up today, nothing else to really blog about.

Dustin Pedroia got the Red Sox scoring started in the first inning with a rbi single.  Then in the fifth inning Jason Varitek hit a solo home run.  Mike Lowell also hit a solo home run in the game as he went deep in the sixth inning.

The Red Sox will get a much needed off day on Thursday and then they will play the Milwaukee Brewers in a interleague series.

Kevin Youkilis hit a game winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 1-0.  Talk about a nice pitching duel between Jon Lester and Roy Halladay.

Lester tossed eight innings and only gave up one in the no decision.  Jonathan Papelbon threw the ninth inning to pick up the win.  Papelbon gave up a hit but kept that runner from crossing the plate.

Besides Youkilis’s single in the ninth inning the Red Sox didn’t have too much offense.  Only five hits in the game for the Red Sox.  I look for them to have a better outing tomorrow against the Blue Jays.

The Boston Red Sox got blown out by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night by the score of 7-2.  It was the first win for the Tigers and the fifth loss of the season for the Red Sox.  The Red Sox are now a game under .500 as their record is 4-5.

Losing pitcher Jon Lester allowed four earned runs in only 5.1 innings.  He was pretty wild as he also had  four walks and give hits allowed.  Bryan Corey allowed two more earned runs as he pitched terrible.

Jacoby Ellsbury and Julio Lugo were the only Red Sox players that were able to knock in any runs.

The Boston Red Sox fell behind early in the ballgame against the Oakland Athletics and were not able to provide much offense the entire game as they lost 5-1 to split the two game series over in Japan.

Starting pitcher Jon Lester wasn’t his normal self on the mound as he only lasted four innings while giving up four earned runs on five hits.  Lester also had four strikeouts, and walked three batters while giving up one homerun.  The homerun came off the bat of Emil Brown, which extended the A’s lead from one to four in the third inning.

The only offense the Red Sox were able to muster up was a solo homerun by Manny Ramirez in the sixth inning.  Other then that, the Red Sox bats were pretty silent and were unable to push across any other runs.

The Red Sox will come back to the US and play three exhibition games against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Daisuke Matsuzaka has got the nod for the Boston Red Sox Opening Day starter.  Matsuzaka will take the mound against the Oakland Athletics on March 25th over in Japan when the Red Sox and Athletics kick off the 2008 Major League Baseball season.

Jon Lester will get the nod for game two in Japan as well.  I can see the Red Sox going 2-0 to start the season with Matsuzaka and Lester pitching.
