Growing up in Connecticut, I have noticed that the state is pretty much separated into two baseball universes, so to speak. North of New Haven County, one will likely see an ocean of blue and red, as most baseball fans root for the team from Beantown. Baseball fans south of New Haven County will likely don the New York Yankees pinstripes. This has kept the great state of Connecticut in a professional baseball civil war for most of its years. On the morning of May 22, 1983, my father, the son of a die-hard Yankees fan, decided to buck this trend.

Jacoby Ellsbury returned to the leadoff spot in Boston's lineup to help the Red Sox beat Northeastern University 13-2 on Saturday night in the second game of an exhibition doubleheader. Ellsbury, who missed all but 18 games last season because of broken ribs, went 0 for 1 with a walk as the Red Sox swept the twin bill after a 6-0 win over Boston College earlier Saturday.

A congressional panel and law firm that investigated performance-enhancing drugs in baseball have agreed to respond to subpoenas issued by Roger Clemens in the next three weeks. The former star pitcher served subpoenas two weeks ago on George Mitchell's former law firm, which investigated the issue for Major League Baseball and on a House committee that held subsequent hearings.
